The general consensus is that HRT is only advisable for the control of specific intolerable menopausal symptoms, like hot flushes. Since there are no guidelines on use of HRT in pulmonary hypertension, a specific advice cannot be made at this stage. Hormone use can be a risk factor in those patients genetically at risk for familial idiopathic pulmonary hypertension and it is thought to avoid the use of predisposing agents in at-risk family members.( Chest. 1999;116:847)
